On February 16th 2013, a very good fluffy puppy was born and moved in with me in Albuquerque.
I had envisioned a dog that was fast, strong, powerful, tireless, and explosive. So I named him Fusion.
It soon became apparent that Fusion was everything but. Gentle, thoughtful, cuddly and as soft on the inside as on the outside, I struggled to see him as the dog he was.
When finally I could let go of my idea of how and who he should be, and embrace the unique genius teddy bear that he is, he started to shine as the smart, patient and infinitely reliable companion that he is to me today.
He has never messed up in any public performance. He does never even think about chasing animals, or barking at things, or being out of control. He has a soft spot for every single person who has walked the earth, even at 4 years old being as thrilled about meeting new people as a little puppy.
He taught me to let go of my expectations of how others should be. When I did that, he showed me a personality so much more complex and beautiful than the one I had picked out for him. He taught me to be patient and work hard and not take motivation in a dog for granted. He taught me to be kind and gentle and with his enormous talent he taught me (and continues to teach me every day) to be the clicker trainer I am now.
